PITTSBURGH, pa -- La Roche College Women's Volleyball won their first match of the season 3-0 (25-20, 28-26, 25-18) in a non-conference game against visiting Penn State Beaver. The Lady Redhawks trailed 19-16 late in the first set, but freshmen Emily Foust and Shawn Neiswonger led a furious Lady Redhawks comeback for the 25-20. La Roche scored nine of the last ten points, including five on Foust serves and three on Neiswonger serves. The Lady Redhawks needed another late comeback to take the second set 28-26. La Roche trailed 23-19 before Neiswonger and freshman Courtney Stiner combined to score five of the next seven points to force the game into a win by two situation. Both teams traded lane violations before a kill by sophomore Shelby Weber gave La Roche a 27-26 lead. Junior Tiffany Brucker ended it with an ace. La Roche won the third set 25-18. The Lady Redhawks led by as many as 12 points but had trouble putting the visiting Nittany Lions away. Penn State Beaver scored five consecutive points on match point but La Roche hung on for the win. La Roche freshman Shawn Neiswonger led all players with 10 kills and senior Veronica Sheehan added 23 assists in the win. La Roche Women's Volleyball will host Chatham University and Carlow University in a tri-match on Saturday, September 11 at 1:00PM at the Kerr Fitness Center.
