PITTSBURGH, Pa. – La Roche volleyball welcomed Mt. Aloysius for a non-conference match on Tuesday night, but in the end, it was the Mounties coming out on top, 3-0.
Set one saw Mount pull ahead in the early stages to a 12-6 lead, but despite multiple efforts by the Redhawks to come back, the closest they would come was within three points the remainder of the way, as the Mounties won 25-20 to open the match.
Set two saw an early spurt from La Roche, taking a 6-4 lead through the first 10 points of play, but Mount would push back, utilizing a 9-3 run to open a 13-9 edge.
The Redhawks would come as close as two points (15-13), but the Mounties took 10 of the final 13 points to take a 2-0 lead, 25-16.
In the final set, Mount again jumped out to a 12-6 lead like set one, but again, La Roche crawled back to pull within two at 15-13.
Unfortunately, a 5-0 run would put the match out of reach, as the Mounties ended the night with a 25-18 victory.
For the Redhawks, Kalli Grine again led the offense with 12 kills and swung a solid .310 on the night. Estelle Winck provided 20 assists on the night to lead the charge.
