La Roche Men's Soccer (0-4) fell to visiting Thiel College (2-3) 3-1 in a non-conference game at Redhawks' Field. The Redhawks struck first to take a 1-0 lead only five minutes into the game. Thiel goalkeeper Josh Hideg went to play a loose ball but sophomore forward Mitch Diven got to the ball first. Hideg tried to recover but he could not get back and the ball trickled in behind him for Diven's first goal of the season. Minutes later, Hideg came out to play another loose ball but was bailed out by a defender. Senior midfielder Anthony Pici beat Hideg to a 50-50 ball and shot it on net but a diving Thiel defender got a head on the ball to deflect it away. From that point forward, momentum turned in favor of the visiting Tomcats. Thiel scored in the 15th and 47th minutes by taking advantage of the Redhawks' inability to clear the ball. They added another goal in the 80th minute to end it. Freshman midfielder John Mancuso had a chance to get the Redhawks within one in the 82nd minute but could not get enough on the shot and Hideg made the save. La Roche Men's Soccer will host Berkeley College (NJ) on Saturday, September 11 at 4:00PM at Redhawks' Field.
