Redhawks Drop Road Match To Oberlin

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – La Roche volleyball traveled to Oberlin on Wednesday night, but it was the Yeowomen coming out on top, 3-0.

Set one was even over the first 16 points, as the teams still sat tied at 8-8.

Oberlin would take control of the set, using an 8-0 to open a 16-8 lead, finishing the set with a 25-17 victory.

The Redhawks stormed in front in set to, jumping out to an 8-3 lead, but the Yeowomen countered with an 8-3 swing of their own to even the set at 11-11.

After moving back ahead, 14-13, La Roche and Oberlin traded three point runs, then a single point each and then two points, and from where that stretch stood, the Redhawks led, 24-23. Unfortunately, the Yeowomen took the final three points to come out on top, 26-24.

 

In the final set, La Roche fell behind early, 6-2, but pulled itself back in it to make it a 9-8 score.

Again, a big run of 8-1 by Oberlin, opened up a 17-9 score and the Redhawks wouldn't be able to come any closer than five points, falling 25-17 to close the match.

For the Redhawks, Kalli Grine again led the offense with 11 kills with a remarkable .526 hitting percentage on the night, while Mackenzie Myers also finished with 11 kills. Estelle Winck provided 16 assists in the contest to lead the team.

On the defensive side, Kaci DePalma was the only one to hit double figures in digs with 11.

La Roche continues its road-trip on Saturday, Oct. 11 as they travel to Hilbert for the second time in 10 days, this time for the AMCC opener. The match is set to begin at 1 p.m.
