Redhawks Unable To Take Down Celtics In Non-Conference Match

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – La Roche volleyball welcomed Carlow for a non-conference clash on Saturday, but in the end it was the Celtics coming out on top, 3-1.

Set one was back and forth over the first 24 points, as neither team held a lead greater than two, with the Redhawks holding a 13-11 edge at that point.

Tides turned briefly with a 6-0 Carlow run, making it 17-13, but La Roche quickly came back to even the score, 19-19.

Both teams traded points and lead, then when down 23-22, the Redhawks came through with the final three points to win 25-23 and go ahead, 1-0.

The Celtics opened set two quickly, leading 8-4, but La Roche would even the score with seven of the next 10 points, 11-11.

Still tied 14-14, Carlow would go on a big run, scoring 11 of the final 14 points to even the match, 1-1, winning 25-17.

The third set was all Celtics, getting to the halfway mark with a 15-8 edge.

The Redhawks stormed back and eventually took the lead, using a 12-3 run to push ahead, 20-18.

Despite leading, 23-21 late in the third set, La Roche was unable to shut the door, as a trio of attack errors factored into a 4-0 stretch for Carlow to come out with a 25-23 win and move ahead, 2-1 in the match.

In set four, it was the red and white storming out to a 6-2 lead, but it was quickly countered by a 13-3 run from the Celtics, who moved ahead, 15-9.

Once again, it was the Redhawks regaining momentum, scoring 11 of 13 points, taking over the lead at 20-17.

Leading late, 23-20, La Roche just couldn't put the visitors away, as a 6-1 final stretch from Carlow sealed the match.

For the Redhawks, Kalli Grine led the offense with 12 kills, followed by eight from Mackenzie Myers. Estelle Winck dished out 28 assists in the contest to lead that category.

On the defensive side, four players finished in double figures for digs, led by Kaci DePalma with 24 and 19 from Myers. Olivia Sickmiller contributed 12 digs and Grine earned a double-double with 11.

Grine and Aislyn Williams on the block, as both picked up four assisted blocks in the game.
