Redhawks Sweep For Second Straight Day

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - La Roche volleyball won by way of a sweep for the second straight day, taking down Penn State Beaver, 3-0.

The first set was even early, including the Lions holding the edge at multiple points, including a 6-5 lead through the first 11 points. However, the Redhawks would dominate the remainder of the set, scoring 20 of the final 26 points to win 25-12 and take a 1-0 match lead.

Set two was the closest of the three and saw La Roche hold a slim, 8-7 edge through the first 15 points. The Redhawks would follow with a 9-0 to push ahead, 17-7.

Beaver countered with a 9-1 run of its own to close the gap to 18-16, but La Roche sealed the set with a 7-0 stretch to move ahead 2-0 with a 25-16 set victory.

Set three was again dominated by the Redhawks, pushing ahead 7-0 to start the final set of the afternoon.

The Lions would approach the midway point trailing 14-9, but another 7-0 run by the red and white moved the edge to 21-9 and closed the sweep with a 25-13 victory.

For the third straight game, Kalli Grine led the team in kills with a game-high nine, followed by five from Megan Bologna.

Kaci DePalma's 11 digs was also a match best, while Estelle Wink provided 12 assists to lead the way.

La Roche now begins a three-match road stretch, beginning with Franciscan on Wednesday, Sept. 10. Opening serve is set for 7 p.m.
