PITTSBURGH, Pa. - La Roche women's basketball wasted little time putting Saturday afternoon's game out of reach, as a dominant opening quarter fueled an offensive onslaught, leading to the most points in a single game in program history, as the Redhawks defeated Pitt-Bradford, 119-36.
La Roche dominated the early going, jumping ahead, 17-5 with 5:23 remaining in the first quarter, before closing the fram with a 15-2 run, building a 32-7 margin heading into the second quarter.
A 4-0 run closed the first quarter and a 10-0 run by the the red and white opened the second quarter, seeing the lead balloon to 42-7 and would stay at a 35-point edge by the time the first half ended, as the Redhawks took a 55-20 lead into the break.
After a pair of three-pointers opened the second half for La Roche, Bradford countered with what would be its only four points of the third quarter, as the Redhawks suffocated the Panthers, ending the final 7:36 of the quarter on a remarkable, 36-0 run, pushing the lead to 97-24 through three quarters.
Bradford would score 12 points in the final quarter, but not for the final 5:44, as La Roche closed the game on one final, 11-0 run, coasting to victory.
For the game, the Redhawks shot 47-for-93 from the field (50.5%), 7-for-25 from three (28%) and 18-for-27 from the free-throw line. Defensively, the Redhawks forced a program, single-game record, 47 turnovers.
On the other end, the Panthers shot 13-for-47 from the floor (27.7%), 2-for-15 from deep (13.3%) and made 8-of-9 attempts from the charity stripe (88.9%).
La Roche had five players finish the game in double figures, highlighted by J'La Kizart, who secured the first triple-double by a Redhawk since December 5, 2012, as she ended the game with 21 points on 9-for-13 shooting, 10 rebounds, matched the program record with 10 steals and collected four rebounds.
Jazmine Dunn led the team in scoring with 28 points, making 10-of-17 from the field, earning herself a double-double with 10 assists, to go alongside five rebounds and three steals.
Catherine Kelly also hit for 25 points, five rebounds, four assists and three steals, while Kaitlyn Nease contributed 18 points and six rebounds. Off the bench, Emily Fisher chipped in 11 points, four rebounds and four steals.
La Roche begins its final road-trip of the season, a two-game stretch, on Wednesday, Feb. 4, when it travels to Mt. Aloysius for a 7 p.m. tip.
