Redhawks Cruise Past Hilbert 82-56

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - La Roche women's basketball returned to AMCC play and cruised past Hilbert, 82-56, on Saturday afternoon.

It was a gritty first quarter that saw the teams stay close to the hip. After a 5-0 start by the Redhawks, the opposing Hawks countered to take the lead, 8-5.

The lead would trade back and forth, the final five minutes, and a last second layup put La Roche ahead, 19-18, going into the second quarter.

The Redhawks would flurry in the second quarter, shutting down Hilbert offensively, allowing just 10 points, while the red and white put up 25, including a buzzer-beater at half-court by Emily Fisher to take a 44-28 edge into the break.

Out of the half, La Roche opened a 50-30 lead, but the Hawks crawled back to within 12 points, but by the end of the third, the Redhawks lead grew back up to 61-42.

The fourth quarter would be much of the same, as La Roche continued its strong showing to cruise to the victory.

For the game, the Redhawks shot 33-for-67 from the floor (49.3%), 5-for-18 (27.8%) from deep and 11-for-20 (55%) from the foul-line.

On the other side, Hilbert finished 19-for-50 from the field (38%), 5-for-16 (31.3%) from three and 13-for-18 (72.2%) from the free-throw stripe.

Jazmine Dunn led all scorers with a near triple-double, hitting for 18 points, 10 assists and eight rebounds.

Catherine Kelly followed with 17 points, five rebounds and three steals, while J'La Kizart provided 13 points, nine rebounds and six steals.

The next matchup for La Roche is on Wednesday, Jan. 14, when they play host to Mt. Aloysius at 7 p.m.
