PITTSBURGH, Pa. – La Roche men's basketball continued its late season push with its third straight win, defeating Alfred State, 74-64.
It was all Pioneers in the early stage of the game, outscoring La Roche 9-2 across the first 2:25.
It wasn't until 12:07 remaining in the first half where the Redhawks tied the score at 13-13 and then with 10:10 to go, the red and black took its first lead of 19-16.
La Roche held the lead over the next 8:44, when Alfred State tied the game at 29-29 with the clock reading 1:26, but the Pioneers would outscore the Redhawks, 7-4 down the final stretch to take a 36-33 lead into the half.
Out of the break, the red and black scored the first six points to take over the lead, and then the teams began trading scores.
With 13:29 remaining, leading 45-44, La Roche began a 9-0 run to push the lead up to 54-44.
Over the final 11 minutes of action, the red and black wouldn't allow the visitors to come any closer than within seven, brining home its third straight win in the process.
For the game, the Redhawks finished 26-for-57 (45.6%) from the floor and 10-for-33 (30.3%) from three. From the foul line, they made 12 of 14 attempts (85.7%).
On the other side, Alfred State finished 24-for-57 (42.1%) from the field, 6-for-24 (25%) from deep and 10-for-14 (71.4%) from the free-throw stripe.
The Redhawks had four players in double figures, led by Isaiah Thomas with 12 points on 5-for-8 shooting, while also adding in nine rebounds and two assists.
Bryce Epps followed with 11 points, five rebounds, four assists and four steals, while Michael Brooks netted 10 points and three rebounds.
Off the bench, Cooper Rankin scored 10 points to go alongside three assists.
La Roche is back on the road for the next two games, beginning Wednesday, Jan. 25 against Mt. Aloysius. Opening tip is set for 7 p.m.
