GREENSBURG, Pa. – La Roche volleyball traveled to Pitt-Greensburg on Tuesday night and had to fight to hold off the host Bobcats, coming out victorious 3-2.
Set one was the closest of the three sets with the Redhawks coming out on top 25-23.
La Roche jumped ahead in the early going, 8-4, but the lead quickly went away after Greensburg struck for seven of the next points to take the 11-10 edge.
From there, the teams battled point for point, until the lead grew to two for the Bobcats at 19-17.
The red and black would respond with seven of the next 10 points to go up 24-22 before sealing the opening set.
Set two sat deadlocked at 5-5 through the first 10 points, but Greensburg caught fire, opening a 19-13 lead and would even the match at 1-1 with a 25-18 win.
La Roche saw itself behind early in set three at 11-6, but struck a 7-1 run to open a 13-12 lead.
The Bobcats quickly responded to regain the lead and other than ties throughout the remainder of the set, never relinquished the lead and took a 2-1 match lead over the Redhawks with a 25-22 victory.
La Roche opened set four with a fury, grabbing a 6-2 lead out of the box, but another Greensburg run, this time one of 8-2 gave the lead to the Bobcats.
This time the red and black had a response, a 6-1 run to move ahead 17-13 and later would close out the set scoring eight of the last 10 to come out on top 25-17 and force a fifth set.
The deciding fifth set was all Redhawks, opening a 5-1 lead in the early stages, before cruising to a 15-7 win to seal the victory.
Kalli Grine and Kylie Fehlman were the kill leaders on the night, as both finished with 11. Grine hit .237% on the night, while Fehlman ended with a .333 hitting percentage.
Mackenzie Kerkan led the defensive side with 28 digs and five assists, while Grine earned a double-double with 19 digs, three blocks and a pair of service aces to go with her 11 kills.
Brooke Bednarski also earned a double-double of 29 assists and 18 digs, while Emma Kaufman added 13 digs and five service aces, followed by Megan Bologna's 12 digs and three service aces.
Fehlman and Hughes joined the block party with three each to match Grine as team leaders, while Audrey Work chipped in with two.
The Redhawks return home for the final time in the 2024 regular season and welcome Hilbert for Senior Day on Saturday, Oct. 26. Opening serve is set for 1 p.m.
