Redhawks Cruise Past Tomcats To Open Season

GREENVILLE, Pa. - La Roche women's lacrosse opened the 2026 season on the road against Thiel, dominating the Tomcats, 14-3.

La Roche took command in the first quarter, scoring five of the six goals in the frame.

Freshman Madalynn Dembrowski made an immediate impact, scoring the first two goals of the game, unassisted.

Thiel cut the deficit to 2-1, but three unanswered followed as Alecia D'Urso netted a pair, one which was assisted by Finnleigh Gould, then was closed out by Gould scoring a player up, off a D'Urso assist.

The Redhawks hit four for more in the second to up the unanswered streak to seven, as Dembrowski netted her third, Kayla Mull scored on a Gould assist, D'Urso with her third and then Dembrowski's fourth of the contest.

Up 9-2 coming out of the half, Kiki Nemcek netted three of the four La Roche goals in the third, one assisted by D'Urso, while Jaina Ilko also scored.

Nicole Schroeder closed the scoring in the fourth off a free position goal.

La Roche ended the game with 29 shots, 21 of which were on goal, led by Nemcek with eight shots and five on target.

Julianna Hornikel faced seven shots on goal and made four saves.

Next up for the Redhawks is a matchup with Geneva, on the road, on Wednesday, Feb. 25 at 4 p.m.
