ALTOONA, Pa. - La Roche men's soccer came into Tuesday night's matchup against Penn State Altoona needing a victory to secure a home playoff game in the first round of the AMCC Tournament.
The ability to receive a first round bye was also on the table and all the cards fell the way of the Redhawks, as they not only shutout the Lions, 1-0, they finished the night in second place in the final AMCC regular season standings, earning that coveted bye straight to the AMCC Tournament semifinals.
One singular goal decided the fate of La Roche on Tuesday night and it came from freshman Jack Sadler, as his goal at 68:29 of the second half proved to be enough to seal the victory and propel the Redhawks into the AMCC Semifinals.
Goalkeeper Maddox Anderson was equally as important to the La Roche victory, stopping all seven shots that came his way on the night, a night in which the Redhawks would outshoot Altoona, 28-10 total and 15-7 in shots on goal.
La Roche gets a reprieve and a week off to prepare for the AMCC Semifinals, a match in which the Redhawks will host on Wednesday, Nov. 5, against the winner of #6 Pitt-Bradford and #3 Alfred State. Time is TBA.
