GREENSBURG, Pa. - For the first time since 2019, La Roche men's soccer was able to defeat Pitt-Greensburg on the road, taking sole possession of first place in the AMCC with a 2-1 victory over the Bobcats.
Furthermore, the dream season added another notch to its belt, as the 2025 Redhawks are now the first team in program history to go five games without a blemish in conference play.
La Roche had the first chance to score at the 11:58 mark of the first half on a penalty kick, but the chip shot sailed over the crossbar.
Pitt-Greensburg would strike first at 23:07, scoring its lone goal of the game, on its lone shot on goal, making it 1-0.
The Redhawks had an answer, as Abdul Basit-Suleman scored his fourth of the season at 35:23 to the the game at 1-1, which stood through the half.
In the second half, La Roche got a rare second penalty kick opportunity at 53:55, but this time would miss wide left and the score remained 1-1 until the late game heroics would prevail.
With the clock reading 4:39 remaining, Phillip Hawkins would find the back of the net to lift the Redhawks to the 2-1 victory and sole possession of first place in the AMCC with three games to play.
La Roche dominated in the shot totals, outshooting the Bobcats, 11-3 on the day and 6-1 in shots on goal.
The Redhawks conclude their two-game road trip on Saturday, Oct. 18, when they take on another top team in the AMCC, Penn State Behrend. Opening kick is slated is 4:30 p.m.
