Redhawks Down Man Battle To 1-1 Draw With Bearcats

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – La Roche men's soccer battled through adversity on Wednesday night, playing down a man for the entire second half, but still came away with a 1-1 draw against St. Vincent.

The draw marks the fifth consecutive match in which the Redhawks have earned a point and that 3-0-2 mark is the first time in a decade (2015-16), La Roche has gone that long without a blemish.

The Redhawks were the first to strike in the matchup, as Malvin Madzimbamuto scored his fifth goal of the season, tying the AMCC lead in the non-conference stage of the season, off a helper from Jayden Fezatte at the 11:58 mark of the first half.

Madzimbamuto's goal would hold through the first half, but at 44:10, a red card on La Roche would force the red and white to play a man down the final 45:50 of the game.

La Roche nearly pulled off the victory, but with just 1:43 remaining, St. Vincent would wear down the man down Redhawks to score the equalizer to end the game in a draw.

Having to play defensive in the second half, the shot total ended in favor of the Bearcats, 12-5 and in shots on goal, 7-2.

Maddox Anderson was stellar in goal, stopping six of the seven shots he faced on the night.

The Redhawks will now look to do something that hasn't been done in 16 years and that's go six straight games unblemished. The next opponent is Waynesburg on the road, Saturday, Sept. 20 at 7 p.m.
