Jimmy McCann enters his first year as La Roche University’s men’s lacrosse head coach. Coach McCann returns to La Roche after most recently spending three seasons serving as Assistant Coach with the defense and goalies at Washington & Jefferson College. Prior to his time at W&J, McCann began his NCAA coaching career serving in the same roles right here with the Redhawks.

 

During his tenure at W&J, McCann worked to coach nine all-conference players, the program's first Academic All-American, had the program's best scoring defense in the last decade, and helped to produce a program best

save percentage during a shortened 2023 season. His defensive unit also posted the program’s best clearing percentage in the last decade in 2023.  

 

Before his time at Washington and Jefferson, McCann was the assistant coach at La Roche from 2019-2021. He was a member of coaching staffs that led the Redhawks to a 4-4 record during two pandemic-shortened seasons. 

 

Prior to his arrival in Western Pennsylvania, McCann served four years as the varsity assistant/goalie coach at both Westminster High School and Gonzo Lacrosse Club in Carroll County, Maryland. His time at Westminster culminated with the Owls compiling a record of 37-1 over back-to-back Maryland 3A state championship seasons. His rosters annually produced All-County, All-State, All-Metro, and All-American selections. 

 

McCann is a 2005 graduate of Mercyhurst University in Erie, PA, where he earned both his bachelor's and master’s degrees in Special Education while participating as a student-athlete for the Lakers. His career at Mercyhurst was punctuated by the Lakers accumulating an overall record of 41-14 as they competed in two NCAA Division 2 Final Four tournaments. 

 

Born and raised on Long Island, McCann is a native of Lake Grove, NY. He attended Centereach High School and was a four-year varsity goalie for the Middle Country Mad Dogs. 

 

McCann currently resides in the South Hills of Pittsburgh with his wife Kelly Rose and their two sons, LJ and Declan.
