PITTSBURGH, Pa. – La Roche baseball returned home for the first time in two weeks, hosting Thiel on Wednesday afternoon. Tides finally turned in the Redhawks favor, as they took down the Tomcats, 13-5.
La Roche struck first in the bottom of the first, when Damon Foster doubled in Tanner Schmitt to give the Redhawks the 1-0 lead.
Thiel struck back in the top of the second, scoring five runs to take a four-run edge.
The Tomcat lead last just the one half inning, as La Roche drove in four runs in the bottom half of the second, behind a bases clearing double from Larry Bielawski and a Foster RBI triple, making it a 5-5 game.
The Redhawks would regain the lead in the fifth, when Brandon Snyder belted a two-run homer to move the needle to 7-5.
In the seventh, La Roche tacked on with RBI doubles by Dante Armanini and Liam Burns, as well as an RBI single from Christian Melendez, all making it 10-5.
Scoring closed in the bottom of the eighth, as Snyder drove in two more with an RBI single and Melendez added another RBI of his own on a ground out.
Bryson Bubb got the start, going just one inning, allowing five runs (three earned), one hit, three walks and struck out two.
Aaron Exler earned the win and was marvelous, throwing eight innings of scoreless, three hit baseball, walking two and striking out 10.
Offensively, La Roche ended game one with 13 hits, seven of which went for extra bases.
Foster led the way going 4-for-5 with two RBI and two runs scored, while Snyder added two hits and four RBI and Burns also chipped in a pair of hits.
The Redhawks are right back in action tomorrow, Thursday, Mar. 20 when they host Chatham at 4 p.m.
