The La Roche Women's Tennis Team fell to the University of Scranton today 5-0 at the Club 4 Life in Monroeville, PA in the First Round of the NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Tournament. The match was scheduled to be played at Carnegie Mellon University but was moved inside due to rain.
The Lady Redhawks battled hard in the doubles which featured 1st Team All-AMCC duo Doria Shima and Mel Ward at the #2 spot. Ward and Shima played strong but lost 8-3. At the #1 position was senior captain Alea Marks and Victoria Shields who played tough but ultimately fell 8-2 to Scranton's top team. At number #3 doubles Elizabeth Shields and Bethanie Moreschi dropped an 8-1 decision.
In singles the Lady Redhawks left everything they had on the court but dropped the matches at #2 and #4 that would clinch the win for the Scranton Royals.
The season ends for the Redhawks but it's one that won't be forgotten any time soon.
"I can't say enough about our team this year and how special this season was for us," said Head Coach Aaron Wilf. "We had some great student-athletes who came together and delivered the first Tennis Championship in school history. We had an amazing time competing at the national level and I'm so proud of their efforts all year."
