Penn State Altoona Hands Lady Redhawks First Conference Sweep

ALTOONA, PA – The Lady Redhawks (13-13, 9-3) were swept for the first time in AMCC Conference play falling to Penn St. Altoona (19-7, 9-3) 4-0, 8-3 at Stewart Athletic Field. The loss drops the Lady Redhawks into a second-place tie in the AMCC standings.

Kara Jo Egelsky threw all six innings of Game 1 allowing four runs (two earned runs) on nine hits while striking out two and walking two.

Cara Giannandrea and Autumn Hubert were the only Lady Redhawks to reach base as Penn State Altoona pitcher Jackie Smith threw a two-hit complete game.

Starting pitcher Samantha Colton recorded the Game 2 loss. She allowed five runs (four earned runs) and six hits in three innings of work. Deanna Tritinger gave up three runs (one earned run) in three innings of relief.

Amanda Varhula finished with two hits and scored a run. Kara Jo Egelsky and Amber Steenbeke each recorded a hit and a RBI and Autumn Hubert registered two hits.

The Redhawks will look to rebound when they host Penn State Behrend in an AMCC Conference game on Saturday, April 23 at 1:00PM.
