LADY REDHAWKS SPLIT WITH CONFERENCE RIVAL MT. ALOYSIUS

PITTSBURGH, pa -- La Roche College Softball (10-9, 3-5) spilt with conference rival Mt. Aloysius 6-2, 13-2 at Redhawks Stadium. Starting pitcher Jessica Cullum gave up a two run homer in the first inning but shut out the Mounties the rest of the way for a 6-2 win. In the second inning, second baseman Autumn Hubert lined a triple to the right, centerfield wall scoring third baseman Jessica Hawkins. Cullum helped her own cause in the fourth inning driving in catcher Sydnie Martin who led off the inning with a triple. The Lady Redhawks added four more runs in the inning on RBIs by Cara Giannandrea, and two by Jessica Hawkins. Autumn Hubert hit a fly ball to centerfield which should have ended the inning but the Mt. Aloysius center fielder dropped it scoring Hawkins from second base. The Mounties tried to answer in the top of the seventh inning but stranded a runner at third to end the game. Starting pitcher Jessica Cullum pitched seven strong innings allowing 2 runs on 5 hits while striking out 5. Autumn Hubert and Jessica Hawkins each finished with 2 hits and 2 RBIs. Mt. Aloysius opened Game 2 with a first inning run off of starting pitcher Kara Jo Egelsky. The Lady Redhawks answered in the bottom half of the inning on an RBI triple by Autumn Hubert which scored Jennifer Hawkins. The Mounties took back the lead in the top of the fourth inning. Hubert and right fielder Valerie O'Neil ran into each trying to field a ball and allowed Mounty second baseman Amy Miller to advance to third. Miller scored on an RBI double by Whitney Giedroc in the next at bat. Again, the Lady Redhawks answered in the bottom of the inning on an Autumn Hubert RBI single. The Mounties' bats however started to heat up in the fourth inning and scored three runs before Jessica Cullum entered in relief with one out and the bases loaded. The next batter, Jena Isenberg cleared the bases with a grand slam to extend the lead to seven. Mt. Aloysius scored four more runs in the top of the fifth to go up eleven and enact the mercy rule. Second baseman Autumn Hubert went 2 for 2 with 2 RBIs. La Roche College Softball will host Case Western Reserve on Friday, April 16 at 3:30PM.
