PITTSBURGH, PA -- La Roche and Hilbert made history today as the teams battled in the AMCC Conference's first-ever game. The Redhawks fought hard on the cold and rainy turf but fell to Hilbert 26-6.
The young Redhawks hung tough early. Brad LaBovick slipped a rebound through the crease to cut it to 2-1 and then scored with a man down to make it 4-2.
Hilbert responded with seven straight goals but the Redhawks strung together a pair for a 9-4 deficit. Sam Crumb tallied one in the man up and sixteen seconds later Jeremy Zang found the back of the net.
Zang added a goal before the half and LaBovick registered a hat trick with a second half goal.
Gino DiPerna was excellent on defense with 5 ground balls and 3 caused turnovers. Blake Foglio made 17 stops in net.
The Redhawks will travel to Muskingum on Saturday for a non-conference game. Start time is 4pm.
