Baseball Walks Off for Ninth Straight Victory

PITTSBURGH, PA -- The La Roche baseball team overcame a ninth inning deficit to beat Waynesburg and win their ninth straight game. The Redhawks improve to 19-6 after the 4-3 victory.

Starting pitcher Tre Thomas sent Waynesburg down in order in the first. He overcame a 3-0 count to strike out the final batter of the inning. Corey Lazor got robbed of a triple in the bottom of the first when Waynesburg's right fielder made an over the shoulder catch on the warning track.

Jonathan Spina tracked a ball down on the warning track in the second and Thomas used a strikeout to get out of a two on, one out jam in the third. Mitchel Yard reached on an error and stole second to put the Redhawks in scoring position with one out in the bottom of the third. A flyout, groundout left Yard standing at third as both teams entered the fourth in a scoreless tie.

Thomas used a 6-3 groundout to strand runners in the fourth inning and then ended the fifth with his sixth strikeout.

Cam Smith came in relief to start the sixth and got Waynesburg to chase a 1-2 pitch to leave runners at the corners.

The Redhawks broke the scoreless tie with a Lemley RBI double in the seventh. Navedo led off the inning with a single, stole second and scored. Lemley added the second run on a Joe Professori single up the middle.

Waynesburg answered with a two-out, three-run home run in the top of the ninth.

The Redhawks used a crazy ending to win the game. Luis Navedo walked and tied it on a Lemley double. Lemley then advanced to third on throwing error. Yard provided the heroics with an RBI single to win the game.

La Roche will host Washington & Jefferson on Wednesday in another AMCC vs PAC battle.
